The influence of linguistic profiling on perceived employability: a new application of the systems theory framework of career development

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to clarify the influence of linguistic profiling on perceived employability. In doing so, we recognize multiple factors that can contribute to this relationship. Using the systems theory framework (STF) of career development, we categorize these factors based on whether they primarily reside within the societal system, the organizational system, or the individual system. Subsequently, we construct and present an open systems model that depicts the influence of linguistic profiling on perceived employability in context with other societal, organizational and individual factors.Design/methodology/approachThe STF provides a theoretical perspective on how to contextualize linguistic profiling and perceived employability within the scope of career development. We employed an integrative literature review method to locate existing research studies that investigated the influences of linguistic profiling and perceived employability. The literature search process, coupled with inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulted in 46 publications retained for analysis.FindingsFindings provided evidence of language ideologies that contribute to linguistic profiling globally. Linguistic profiling usually results in reduced perceived employability. There was variation in the research findings based on the context of the research studies. The context consisted of the societal, organizational and individual systems in which the research study was conducted. Findings supported our construction of an open systems model of the influence of linguistic profiling on perceived employability, which is rooted in the STF.Originality/valueThis study highlights the negative influence of linguistic profiling on perceived employability. It also demonstrates how the STF can be used to contextualize the linguistic profiling problem within societal and organizational systems.

L-PRF como alternativa para tratamento de Comunicações Bucossinusais: uma revisão integrativa

Oroantral communication is defined as a direct access between the sinus cavity and the oral cavity. This condition is often accidentally caused during the dental extraction of a tooth whose roots are closely associated with the floor of the maxillary sinus, in addition to oral pathologies and even traumas. The technique of using the L-PRF membrane associated with flaps is widely used for extensive communications and has several advantages. The present study aims to analyze the efficacy of L-PRF in the treatment of existing oroantral communications in the most current literature. An integrative literature review was conducted to list and analyze the efficacy of L-PRF in tissue healing when obtaining the closure of oroantral communications. Scientific articles from 2014 to 2023, published in full in Portuguese and English, were selected and excluded were literature reviews and systematic reviews, articles in languages other than Portuguese and English, repeated articles in the databases, and articles that deviated from the theme proposed in the guiding question chosen. The data search was conducted in Google Scholar, LILACS, and PubMed, through the combination, using the Boolean operator “AND,” of the descriptors in English: “Oroantral Communication,” “L-PRF,” “Maxillary Sinus.” A total of 205 articles were found, but only 9 satisfactorily met the listed criteria. After a careful analysis, it was observed that the authors suggest that the use of the L-PRF membrane insertion technique for tissue healing involved in oroantral communication associated with sutures or flaps for its closure is feasible, effective, and widely spread in modern Dentistry.

Augmenting Academic Efficiency: The Integration of Assessments Within the Addie Model for Pedagogical Development

This paper explores the integration of assessments within the ADDIE model for pedagogical development, emphasizing its crucial role in enhancing learning experiences. Through a meticulous literature review, theoretical frameworks, practical implementations, and outcomes of assessment integration are examined. Assessments, spanning formative, summative, and authentic types, are shown to be integral to each phase of the ADDIE model, promoting customized interventions, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision-making. While challenges such as resource constraints and expertise gaps exist, strategies including professional development and technology integration offer pathways to overcome them. Furthermore, actively involving learners in the assessment process, providing timely feedback, and aligning assessments with learner interests can enhance motivation and engagement, fostering intrinsic motivation and self-directed learning. This study underscores the importance of integrating assessments into the ADDIE Model, advocating for learner-centered approaches and instructional design practices.

La iluminación como una infraestructura de cuidado

This integrative literature review addresses the relevance of illumination. Through the lens of infrastructures of care, it proposes three analysis categories: (a) "illumination, culture, and life in society" gather studies on cultural and social aspects involving lighting; (b) "access to lighting, technology, and sustainability" demonstrates how access to light and technologies needs discussion considering structural disparities, resource scarcity, and sustainability; (c) "illumination in healthcare" explores its influence on the environment and perception of users in care settings. These themes intersect and demand a transdisciplinary approach. Analyses suggest that lighting projects and systems can contribute to feelings of welcoming, well-being, and belonging, while ensuring good visibility for services and procedures, alongside controlling glare and reflectance. Expanding exploratory research in social and community settings through case studies and prototype implementation is recommended. There is room for additional research considering illumination as an infrastructure of care, focusing on access and the positive experience of users and citizens.

An integrative review of racism in nursing to inform anti-racist nursing praxis in Aotearoa New Zealand.

To synthesise international literature to identify mechanisms that maintain racism in nursing and understand the factors that contribute to designing and implementing anti-racist praxis to inform nursing in Aotearoa New Zealand. An integrative literature review was undertaken, integrating Indigenous Kaupapa Māori methodologies to ensure a cultural and philosophical lens. Peer-reviewed literature published, between January 2011 and July 2023 were sourced. Of 1296 articles, 16 met the inclusion criteria and 4 were identified via citation chaining. In total, 20 articles were included. The Johns Hopkins Research Evidence Tool was applied, findings extracted, and thematic analysis completed utilising Indigenous Kaupapa Māori principles. Databases, including CINAHL, Scopus, PubMed and Aus/NZ Reference Centre, were searched in July 2023. Two key themes were identified: (1) colonial active resistance to change; and (2) transformational, visionary, and proactive nursing. Nurses are well-positioned to confront the structures that maintain racism in health and education systems but are often actors in maintaining status quo. Anti-racist praxis can be a mechanism for nurses to reimagine, redefine and transform nursing care, leadership, and nursing education to begin to eradicate racism. This integrative review adhered to the 2020 Preferred Reporting for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method. No patient or public contribution. Racism remains prevalent in nursing and the healthcare system. It is necessary to implement anti-racist praxis and policies that resist, deconstruct, and dismantle power and racism while validating Indigenous values, beliefs and practices. This is vital to deliver equitable health care. This integrative review presents lived realities and knowledge of Indigenous and racially minoritised nurses and scholars, alongside nursing allies to inform anti-racist praxis. This evidence signifies that it is time to walk the walk to challenge the colonising systems and processes that hold racism in place.

Analysis of The Feasibility of Hydrogen Injection in Pipeline Gas Challenges in The Management of Acute Myocardial Infarction in Patients With Associated Comorbidities: A Review of The Literature

Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the challenges in the management of Acute Myocardial Infarction in patients with associated comorbidities, with the aim of identifying gaps in treatment and proposing strategies to improve care. Theoretical Framework: Modifiable risk factors play a significant role in the incidence of myocardial infarction, as evidenced by a relevant international study. Understanding the epidemiology of heart attack, including its prevalence, incidence and geographic distribution, is essential to develop effective prevention and control strategies. Identifying and managing traditional risk factors, such as smoking, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and obesity, is crucial in the preventive approach to this condition. Method: Through an integrative literature review, recent studies are explored that cover everything from epidemiology and risk factors to prevention and treatment strategies. An initial selection of 153 articles was refined to 10 studies that met all criteria. Results and Discussion: The results highlight an increasing trend in the prevalence of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), with a stabilization in the age-standardized prevalence rate, suggesting advances in prevention and treatment. The analysis emphasizes the importance of robust and inclusive public health strategies, focused on educating the population about the risks, ensuring rapid access to treatment, and reducing inequalities in access to healthcare. Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications of this research are discussed, providing insights into how results can influence healthcare management, public policy formation, and clinical practice in cardiology. These implications may include the need for continuing education programs for healthcare professionals, the implementation of integrated care models, and the adaptation of healthcare systems to meet the specific needs of patients with comorbidities associated with AMI. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature by highlighting the specific challenges faced in the management of AMI in patients with comorbidities, providing valuable insights to improve the quality of AMI care and reduce disparities in treatment. The relevance and value of this research are evidenced by its contribution to a more comprehensive understanding of the factors that influence the prognosis and quality of life of these patients.

Risks and benefits of use of medicinal plants during pregnancy: a review

The administration of drugs or any substances in order to minimize the discomfort of the gestational period can compromise the good development of the new being in formation or even cause abortion. This study aimed to realize an integrative literature review on the prevalence of the use of medicinal plants by women during pregnancy. Between November 2019 and September 2020, a survey was performed in the Scielo database and in CAPES journals with the descriptors “medicinal plant during pregnancy”, “ethnobotany and pregnant women” and their correspondents in Portuguese: “planta medicinal durante a gravidez”; “etnobotanica e gestantes”. Among the articles published in the period from 2001 to 2020, 50 studies were appropriated in the inclusion and exclusion criteria being selected for this review. All studies (100%) were conducted through interviews. One of these studies is of a multinational character. The medicinal plants most commonly used by pregnant women are Lippia alba (lemongrass -79.5%), Peumus boldus Molina (boldo -41%), Pimpinella anisum (fennel -28%) and Matricaria recutita (chamomile -28%).

This integrative literature review (ILR) examines how we can exploit AI to enhance organizational leadership in Morocco, where there is a notable lack of awareness among leaders and IT policymakers about the revolutionary potential of AI-powered leadership. This ILR aims to address this knowledge gap by looking at the application and impact of strategic analytics and adaptive machine learning management in critical industries such as banking, healthcare, tourism, manufacturing, and logistics. These AI-driven techniques get value for their ability to alter leadership by improving Moroccan decision-makers capacities in driving competitiveness and organizational sustainability. The review thoroughly illuminates the power of AI-driven leadership, which Strategic Analytics and Adaptive Machine Learning Management trigger. The study's conceptual framework revolves around four key pillars: AI, strategic analytics, leadership, and adaptive machine learning management. This ILR employs inclusion and exclusion criteria, data extraction, data analysis and synthesis, and conceptual mapping to ensure the rigor and comprehensiveness of the research material. The findings of this ILR highlight the significance of implementing strategic analytics and adaptive machine learning management into Morocco's leadership practices. They illuminate the need to develop a strong leadership pipeline, conduct collaborative research, establish policy frameworks, safeguard data, foster innovation in management, and train the workforce. This review offers suggestions for forthcoming policies and practices, emphasizing the application of adaptive machine learning management and strategic analytics. These recommendations can significantly influence the practice of AI-powered leadership in Moroccan organizations and offer valuable insights for future research.

Consumer involvement and guiding frameworks in mental healthcare: An integrative literature review.

Perspectives of healthcare have, in past decades, focused more on active citizenship, human rights and empowerment. Healthcare consumer involvement as a concept is still unstructured and consumers have no apparent opportunities to participate in their care processes. The focus is often on the expertise of professionals, even if mental health consumers are willing to become involved and have sufficient decisional capacity. The aim of this integrative literature review was to construct an understanding of consumer perceptions and guiding frameworks of consumer involvement. There was no previous synthesis of mental health consumer perceptions combined with guiding frameworks. An integrative review methodology was employed, following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. The quality of the 18 studies included was analysed with the Whittemore and Knafl approach. By following Braun and Clarke's guidelines, an inductive thematic analysis was conducted to collate the themes from the selected papers. Mental health consumers' perceptions of involvement included expectations of person-centred care, such as respect, dignity, equal interaction, supportive environments and being part of a community. This research did not find any single established framework to give clear guidelines for consumer involvement in mental healthcare, but similar determinants describing various frameworks were uncovered. This review also shows how the terminology has changed throughout the years. The perceptions of mental health consumers need to be considered to enable the implementation of person-centredness from guidelines through to practice. Paying more attention to the education of professional mental health caregivers and the involvement of mental health consumers in their care provides better opportunities to co-develop successful mental health services and recovery processes.

Revolutionizing Moroccan Education with AI: A Path to Customized Learning

This integrative literature review analyzes how AI, specifically Machine Learning (ML) and Large Language Models (LLMs), is used in Moroccan education. The study emphasizes the significance of modernizing traditional educational techniques. It investigates how artificial intelligence may personalize learning experiences, minimize educational disparities, and foster a culturally diverse and technologically sophisticated learning environment. The ILR uses a conceptual framework that highlights customized learning, equitable education, technological innovation, and a systematic methodology that incorporates extensive literature synthesis. The research process thoroughly examines multiple academic sources, including peer-reviewed articles, books, conference papers, and reports. The ILR identifies relevant patterns, barriers, and opportunities associated with integrating AI in Moroccan education by carefully studying and synthesizing data. The findings demonstrate the enormous potential of ML and LLMs in revolutionizing teaching methods, encouraging active student participation, and closing educational inequalities across Morocco. The paper finishes by underlining the need to incorporate AI into educational practice and identifying areas for future research. It emphasizes investigating how AI may help Morocco and other countries modernize their education systems.

Considerations of quality: examining theoretical perspectives informing infant and toddler pedagogy in Aotearoa/New Zealand

ABSTRACT With the growing participation of infants and toddlers in group care settings ongoing examination and research into what constitutes quality education and care for this age group is paramount. Theories and approaches espoused in Aotearoa/New Zealand’s mandated early childhood curriculum Te Whāriki: He whāriki mātauranga mo ngā mokopuna o Aotearoa. Early childhood curriculum (Ministry of Education, 2017) were examined to ascertain how they could inform quality pedagogy and practice with infants and toddlers. The research used an integrative literature review methodology to investigate the theoretical underpinnings of this curriculum and how these aligned to quality pedagogy for infants and toddlers. Evidence emerging from the research found many similarities between the pedagogical practices related to each theory and alignment with quality experiences for infants and toddlers. Moving forward it is suggested that an increased depth of knowledge of theories and their relationship to pedagogy for infants and toddlers would enhance teaching practice. The review also recommends that further research should be undertaken into how kaiako conceptualise and enact educational theory in infant and toddler ECEC settings.

MULTISENSORY METHODS AS TEACHERS' EFFORTS IN DEALING WITH DYSLEXIC CHILDREN IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: LITERATURE REVIEW

Dyslexic children of primary school age feel unable to keep up with learning, because they have different ways to learn. Teachers in school need to strategize a method for dyslexic children can follow the lesson well. This study aims to determine the efforts of teachers in dealing the dyslexic children with multisensory methods in elementary school. The research method used is integrative literature review with a five-stage framework, namely problem identification, literature search, data evaluation, data analysis, and presentation of findings. The electronic databases used are Sinta, ResearchGate, Google Scholar, Garuda, and Rama Repository, producing amount 38,649 articles over the past 10 years. Using search keywords, 7 journals were identified as meeting the inclusion criteria using the CASP (Critical Appraisal Skill Program) instrument. The result of this literature review is that multisensory methods are proven to improve the reading ability and learning quality of dyslexic children. Children experience an improvement in their ability to recognize words accurately although not significantly. Teachers need to provide remedial to overcome the difficulties and learning barriers they experience at school, and discuss with parents in order to children get a balanced teaching method between home and school.

Epoxy resin-based root canal sealers: An integrative literature review.

The correct obturation of the root canal system achieved by means of a core and a cement is essential for the success of endodontic treatment. There are several root canal cements (RCCs) on the market; however, because of their excellent characteristics, epoxy resin-based sealers (ERBSs) have been widely used. The main aim of this review was to analyze and integrate the available information on different ERBSs. An electronic search was performed in the PubMed and Scopus databases, using "epoxy resin" AND "root canal treatment", and "epoxy resin" AND "endodontics" as search terms. In general, ERBSs have good flow properties, film thickness, solubility, dimensional stability, sealing capacity, and radiopacity. They are also able to adhere to dentin while exhibiting low toxicity and some antibacterial effects. However, their main disadvantage is the lack of bioactivity and biomineralization capability. A large number of ERBSs are available on the market, and AH Plus keeps being the gold standard RCC. Yet, information on many of them is limited or non-existent, which could be due to the fact that some of them are relatively new. The latter emphasizes the need for relevant research on the physicochemical and biological properties of some ERBSs, with the aim of supporting their clinical use with sufficient evidence via prospective and long-term studies.

Strategies to attract school-leavers to nurse education programmes: an integrative literature review.

The shortfall of nurses in the UK has led to concerns that there are insufficient staff to ensure safe and high-quality care. To address this shortfall, one group to focus on for recruiting nursing students is school-leavers. This article reports on an integrative literature review that was conducted to explore the educational strategies used to attract school-leavers to undergraduate nurse education programmes. The review identified that a variety of educational strategies were used, and all of the included studies reported positive effects on school pupils' intention to undertake nursing studies. These strategies often included interactions with nursing staff and/or nursing students, as well as observing and practising clinical skills, for example via simulation. However, most participants likely had a pre-existing interest in healthcare or nursing, the interventions were delivered predominantly to young women, and the included studies lacked longer-term follow-up. This highlights a need to conduct further research to assess the longitudinal impact of recruitment strategies aimed at broader audiences.

Optimizing the co-benefits of biodiversity and carbon sinks in urban residential yards

Urban green infrastructure is recognized for its potential to combat biodiversity loss and enhance carbon sequestration in cities. While residential yards constitute a significant part of urban green infrastructure, their role in providing urban ecosystem services remains largely understated. There is a lack of systematic measures for effectively implementing urban vegetation to enhance ecosystem services. The aim of this study is to investigate how different vegetation types typically found in urban residential yards of apartment blocks can enhance carbon sequestration and biodiversity, and how these benefits can be supported through landscape design. The study encompasses an integrative literature review and qualitative analysis. Drawing from a review of previous research, this study identifies the drivers that indicate either carbon sink potential or biodiversity enhancement potential of urban vegetation types. The drivers are then cross-examined to identify the qualities of urban green that potentially strengthen carbon–biodiversity co-benefits. As the key findings we present versatile measures to enhance the potential co-benefits of carbon sinks and biodiversity within urban yards and summarize them in three main categories: plant diversity, provision of good growing conditions and maintenance. The study stresses that the several potential co-benefits of urban green can only be achieved through the selection and prioritization of solutions during the planning and design process. To exemplify this, we demonstrate how the findings from the literature review can be incorporated into the design and management of urban yards. We conclude that the main actions to be addressed in the future planning and design of urban residential yards are (i) establishing diverse planting areas with a mixture of woody and herbaceous plants to encourage species richness and complexity, (ii) optimizing the use of space and growth conditions, and, (iii) implementing maintenance practices that consider both carbon and biodiversity aspects. The study highlights that through enhancing carbon-biodiversity co-benefits urban yards can significantly contribute to major environmental challenges and provide vital ecosystem services within the built urban environments.

Potencial terapêutico de fitoconstituintes de Pilocarpus microphyllus Stapf ex Wardlew. e da própolis na doença de Alzheimer: uma Revisão Integrativa

Introduction: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an irreversible neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the deterioration of cognitive functions, for which the available pharmacotherapy is not capable of effecting a cure. Objectives: To investigate the neuroprotective properties of phytoconstituents from Jaborandi (Pilocarpus microphyllus) and propolis as potential agents in the therapy of AD. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review study, in which the PICO strategy was followed in formulating the guiding question. Five databases were used: PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Embase, and Lilacs. The analysis was conducted with the descriptors "epiisopiloturine", "episopilosin", "pilocarpine", "macaubine", "propolis", "alzheimer" extracted from the DeCS (Health Sciences Descriptors) and Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). Keywords were isolated and combined using boolean operators AND and OR. Results: The search resulted in 602 studies identified in the databases, 337 were duplicates, leaving 265 for title and abstract reading, of which 250 were excluded. In the end, 10 studies were read in full and 08 studies were included in the scope of the review. The research evidenced neuroprotective activity for propolis, through antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, and anticholinesterase action, configuring it with therapeutic potential in AD. For pilocarpine, a substance with various clinical applications, few studies demonstrated a correlation with AD, in cognitive and behavioral improvement. Conclusion: Therefore, benefits for the use of propolis in cognitive dysfunctions are concluded, while for pilocarpine, this relationship was not established. It is necessary to develop research that elucidates the possible functional roles for these substances.

The Potential Social Impact of COVID-19 Lockdowns on Agricultural Households in South Africa: An Integrative Review

This article attempts to establish a synergy between two strands of literature. On the one hand, the findings focused on the elderly, who had already been suffering from mild illnesses and comorbidities, and the poor and rural dwellers, who then represented the population groups most likely to be killed by the virus, as the population groups most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. On the other hand, the findings on smallholder farming households, as a population group, share the same attributes as the elderly group. The research data was gathered through an integrative literature review using secondary sources from Statistics South Africa and the Department of Health. Our findings suggest that the smallholder farmers who are elderly with a greater reliance on agriculture and the wage labourers were most vulnerable to the impact of COVID-19. Although our findings suggest a likely impact on all the pentagon capitals of smallholders identified through the SLF lens, the odds are higher in the social, human, and financial capitals. Therefore, in future outbreaks, the available support should prioritise the smallholder farmers largely defined by these capitals.

Technological innovation for workload allocation in nursing care management: an integrative review

Background Technology reduces the nursing workload, improve the quality care processes, patient’s safety, and avoid staff burnout. Innovative technologies are disrupting healthcare systems by improving the efficiency of processes and management. There is a discussion on the benefits, challenges, and barriers of these technologies and considering human factors of nursing management. The aim was to analyze the influence of technologies on the distribution of workload for nursing care management. Methods An integrative literature review was performed. Four databases were searched: Scopus, Scielo, PUBMED, and CINALH following PRISMA guidelines. Articles published from January 2016 to December 2020, published in English, Spanish and Portuguese were included. Studies were excluded when they were not original research, did not met the quality criteria or they did not answer the research questions. Quality appraisal was performed using the Crowe Critical Appraisal Tool version 1.4 (CCAT). Two reviewers independently examined the title and abstract for eligibility according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results 2818 potentially relevant articles were found, but once the inclusion and exclusion criteria in the abstracts were analyzed, 177 remained for evaluation. After following the PRISMA Guidelines, 35 studies were included in the review. Three categories were identified: Nursing workload; Information technologies and technological means for management; Technology acceptance. Conclusions Technology has the potential to improve care management by estimating nurse workload in ICUs and non-critical units, but scientific evidence is more detailed in the former type of services. The literature provides insights about the factors that factors and the barriers that promote the technology acceptance and usability. We did not find studies comparing technologies and no scientific evidence proving improvements in care.
